McHugh forthcoming in Unsplendid

Ashey McHugh's poem "In Praise of the Light Bulb" has been accepted for a future issue of Unsplendid.

Sidney Wade reads Tuesday

Poet and translator Sidney Wade reads from her work Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Giffels Auditorium. Sidney has published five collections of poems, the most recent of which is Stroke, from Persea Books. Her poems and translations have appeared in a wide variety of journals, including Poetry, The New Yorker, Grand Street, Paris Review, The New Republic, The Gettysburg Review, Two Lines, and The Kenyon Review, among others. She translates the poems of Guven Turan, Yahya Kemal, and Gulseli Inal, among others, from the Turkish. She recently served as president of the Association for Writers and Writing Programs, and has taught at the University of Florida in the Creative Writing Program since 1993. Brock receives Pushcart Prize

Geoff Brock has received a Pushcart Prize for his poem "Daddy: 1933," which appears in Pushcart Prize XXXIV: Best of the Small Presses, out this month. The poem originally appeared in the June 2008 issue of Poetry and can be read here.

The Pushcart Prize anthologies have been published annually since the mid-1970s to honor the best poetry and short fiction of the preceding year. Michael Heffernan, Skip Hays, Molly Giles, and Ellen Gilchrist have appeared in earlier volumes.

Peterson forthcoming in anthology

Josh Peterson's short story "Love Apocalypse" will appear in the FlatmanCrooked anthology Not About Vampires: An Anthology of New Fiction Concerning Everything Else due out early next year. Josh is a first-year student in the program.

Ashley McHugh, rock star

Ashley McHugh has received the Morton Marr Poetry Prize for her poem "Into These Knots." The prize includes publication in the Southwest Review and a check for $1,000.

Also this week, two of Ashley's poems — "Wedding Anniversaries" and "Church of the Annunziata, 1760" — were accepted for publication in a future issue of the Pebble Lake Review.
