Shores-Argüello's First Book
Jacob Shores-Argüello first book, In the Absence of Clocks, winner of Crab Orchard Review and selected by Yusef Komunyakaa, is now available at bookstores. You can read the poem, "On the Holiday for the Dead" from the book on the Poetry Daily page.
Davis McCombs Named 2013 Laman Library Writers Fellow
The William F. Laman Public Library System in Little Rock has awarded Davis McCombs, director of our program, its 2013 Laman Library Writers Fellowship!
Each year, this fellowship provides a grant of up to $10,000 to an Arkansas author to support the work of writing and publishing. Previous fellows are Kevin Brockmeier, adult novelist and children’s author; Grif Stockley, author of six legal novels and several non-fiction books on race relations in Arkansas; and Mara Leveritt, true crime journalist and author.
McCombs is the author of the collections Ultima Thule, which won the 1999 Yale Younger Poets prize, and Dismal Rock.

Englehardt Wins The Stranger's Fiction Contest
John Englehardt's story "Gingrich" won The Stranger's winter fiction contest, judged by Sherman Alexie and Rebecca Brown, and was published in December 2012.
